Is VOXI a good network?

Anyone who wants a good value SIM deal – especially if you spend a lot of time using social media and video apps – would probably agree that VOXI is a good network.

It has a small range of plans at attractive prices, especially when you consider that none of your data will be spent on certain social media apps. And even more so if you choose a plan with unlimited video.

The drawbacks, however, are that you won’t find a lot of choice. What benefits does VOXI offer?

Can I use my VOXI SIM abroad?

Yes, but you won’t get the best value roaming on the mobile market.

You can use your allowance abroad in its Europe Zone, but you need to purchase additional daily or weekly passes to do so. It’s also subject to a fair usage policy of 20GB per month – even if your plan includes more data than that – and you can’t use your unlimited social media and/or video apps as you would in the UK.

Outside of the Europe Zone, you can use your SIM in most countries, but you’re charged pay-as-you-go for everything – and it’s pretty expensive. Calls start at 60p per minute and data starts at 12p per MB at the time of writing, with data services not available at all in some destinations.

Are VOXI SIM-only deals cheaper than contracts?

Can I keep my mobile number if I switch to a VOXI SIM-only deal?

Yep, you can keep your phone number when you switch mobile networks, regardless of which network you're switching to or from. It's surprisingly hassle-free to sort out, too.

All you need to do is sign up to a new deal, then contact your current network and ask for a PAC - a porting authorisation code. Give it to VOXI once you have your SIM, and the number should port across within a matter of days.

Do I need an unlocked phone to use a VOXI SIM?

Yes, your phone needs to be unlocked - or locked to VOXI - in order to use a VOXI SIM card.

If you bought your phone outright from a retailer, it should already be unlocked and you have nothing to worry about.

However, if you're using an old phone that you got on a contract, it may be locked to your former network. In that case, you'll need to get it unlocked - but don't worry, as this is easy enough to do.

All you have to do is contact the network it's locked to, and they'll sort it out - sometimes free of charge. They may give you a code to enter, or might be able to it remotely. Your phone will be unlocked and ready for a new SIM in a few days' time.

How long do VOXI contracts last?

All VOXI SIM-only deals are 30 day plans, so they last as long as you want them to. You can keep it rolling month to month, or you can change your allowance – or cancel and switch entirely.
