iPhone 15 Pro Max features at a glance
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is Apple’s top-of-the-range smartphone. It comes with the latest iOS 17 operating system as standard, as well as a huge 6.7 inch screen. It comes with Dynamic Island that debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, featuring a dedicated area at the top of the screen for notifications and additional app functionality, as well as housing sensors for Face ID. That means no notch at the top of the display.
There’s also a new action button for accessing quick tasks, replacing the old mute button on the side of the device.
Apple says the iPhone 15 Pro Max has 29 hours of video and 95 hours of audio when it comes to battery life, while it also comes with a class leading camera that packs a triple lens setup and a new, 5x optical zoom that’s not found on any other iPhone. This means it is designed to deliver the best pics ever from an iPhone.
It comes with USB-C rather than Apple’s lightning connector for charging.
iPhone 15 Pro Max availability
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was launched on 12th September 2023, with preorders opening on 15th September, and a full release from 22nd September.
It is available in a wide range of colours, including natural titanium, blue titanium, black titanium and white titanium.
iPhone 15 Pro Max design
The iPhone 15 Pro Max takes things on from 2022’s iPhone 14 Pro Max and is the larger sibling of the iPhone 15 Pro. While it has a similar look, its display is a bigger 6.7-inches.
The finish, as we’ve come to expect from Apple, is better than that found on rival devices, with a contoured edge design and a titanium shell, which makes the iPhone 15 Pro Max lighter and stronger than its predecessor. The new aluminium internal design is meant to make repairs easier too.
The display is striking and bright with a brightness rating of 2,000 nits when outdoors. As with its predecessor, it is dominated by the incredible Dynamic Island, which makes interacting with apps and widgets breezy and ensures the screen isn’t stymied by that old style notch.
The new action button, which replaces the old mute button, uses haptic feedback to fire up Dynamic Island and let you silence your device, switch on the camera or access Focus mode, among other functionality.
Apple has also dropped the proprietary Lightning charger for the universal USB-C connector for charging.
iPhone 15 Pro Max camera specifications
The iPhone 15 Pro Max marks a major change from last year’s model. It comes with triple lenses, the largest clocking in at 48MP.
The big news here, though, is that one of the 12MP lenses can get close ups at 5x optical zoom, improved optical image stabilisation, and 3D autofocus, which means it can rival the best phones from Google and Samsung. This lens is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With pro shooting modes and the ability to change focal length too, it’s worth spending extra for, especially if you’re a creative type.
Up front, there’s a 12MP TrueDepth camera, while video shooting goes all the way up to ProRes 4K at 60 frames per second. This means the iPhone 15 Pro Max is ideal for content creators and those who love making Reels and using the likes of TikTok.
Is iPhone 15 Pro Max worth buying now?
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is unquestionably one of the best smartphones out in 2023. Its stunning screen, amazing design, class-leading camera and access to all the latest iOS17 features puts it ahead of the pack, while its sheer size means it’s ideal for streaming video and gaming.
Obviously, that comes at a cost, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max being the most expensive iPhone in the 2023 range. Users who want the same specs in a slightly smaller package can opt for the iPhone 15 Pro or go with the still-impressive iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Max. Alternatively, last year’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max have now come down in price and are still highly impressive handsets.
Its biggest rival is perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. But for iPhone lovers, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the only handset in town.
As with all iPhones, the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max won't drop significantly until the iPhone 16 is released in 2024.
Can I get the iPhone 15 Pro Max with no upfront cost?
As more and more deals for the iPhone 15 Pro Max become available, you will likely be able to get the iPhone 15 Pro Max with no upfront cost. Just remember that this will push up your monthly payments. These can be eased by taking out a longer 36-month contract.
