iPhone 14 Pro availability and price
The iPhone 14 Pro was available to pre-order from 9th September 2022, with a full launch on 16th September 2022.
Its price at launch is £1,099 for the model with 128GB storage, £1,209 for 256GB, £1,429 for 512GB, or £1,649 for 1TB.
Design
For its 2022 clutch, Apple decided the iPhone was beautiful just the way it was – so the design of the iPhone 14 Pro is pretty much identical to that of the iPhone 13 Pro.
The front and back are made with strong sheets of Gorilla Glass, and the rest of the frame is robust stainless steel. It stands at 148mm tall – just about the same dimensions as its predecessor – and shows the camera lenses on the back in the same top-corner triangular formation.
The front is almost completely covered with the 6.1-inch screen, with just a lozenge-shaped cut-out at the top where the front camera and sensors are. That notch is now cleverly incorporated into the user interface – it’s where you’ll see important bits of info, such as who’s calling you, or whether your AirPods are connected.
As for colours, you can pick between space black, silver, gold, and deep purple.
Camera
Photography is a key area where Pro models of iPhone really come into their own, and the 14 Pro is no exception. The main lens has grown to a 48MP affair, meaning more detailed shots, and there’s an added 12MP 77mm telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
The whole setup has been tweaked to improve low light performance, including the new Photonic Engine tech, and a flash with nine LEDs. Plus, there’s next-gen OIS for stable shots.
And it’s amazing for shooting video. You can record in 4K resolution, and take advantage of new Cinematic and Action modes.
Specs
These are the absolute top specs you can get on an iPhone as of 2022. The 14 Pro is powered by a new A16 Bionic chip – a generation better than the chipset in the regular iPhone 14 – meaning it can handle even the most taxing apps, games, photography, and filmmaking.
That’s along with 6GB RAM and up to a huge 1TB of storage.
As for battery, Apple is evasive about the exact size, but we do know this is the longest-lasting on an iPhone to date. The company claims it can power up to 29 hours of video playback – which translates to well over a full day of normal use on one charge.
Can I get the iPhone 14 Pro with no upfront cost?
Contract deals tend to change fairly frequently, but it’s certainly likely that you can get the iPhone 14 Pro with no upfront cost.
There’s an easy way to find out. Just use our comparison tool, and adjust the upfront cost filter to zero – or as low as you’re willing to pay upfront today. Then you’ll see all your options from different networks and retailers.
Is the iPhone 14 Pro worth buying in 2024?
Along with its larger brother the iPhone 14 Pro Max, this is the best iPhone of 2022. It boasts good build quality, the latest in smartphone computing tech, and the top specs Apple has to offer, including 5G. Needless to say, it won’t be obsolete for quite some time, and is still worth buying.
What’s the difference between the iPhone 14 Pro and regular iPhone 14?
Apple has pumped a few things up for its Pro model. It has:
- a more powerful next-gen processor
- a better camera setup, including an added telephoto lens
- a longer-lasting battery
- more storage, up to 1TB
Meanwhile, the difference between the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max is simply the screen size – the Max model grows it to 6.7 inches. The battery is a little larger too, but since that’s just to power the bigger screen, you can expect similar battery life.
What’s the cheapest way to get an iPhone 14 Pro?
Generally, the cheapest overall way to get a brand new iPhone is to buy the handset outright and get a SIM-only deal for it.
But if you’d rather take out a contract, we have a few tips for keeping the price down…
- Use our mobile deal comparison tool, and sort by cost – or adjust the price filters to see all the deals in your budget. We’ll show you all the deals that fit what you need, with the cheapest ones floating to the top.
- Consider small networks and mobile resellers – The way these companies cut costs lets them pass on the savings to you, the customer, so you can find some of the best priced deals on the market.
- Go for a lower allowance – Unlimited data is tempting, but not all of us need it. See if you can save a few quid by picking a plan with a data limit.
- Choose less storage – The iPhone 14 Pro offers up to 1TB in internal storage, but it comes with a higher price tag. Pick a lower storage option, and you can save money.
Can I get the iPhone 14 Pro with poor credit?
It may be a challenge. All mobile contract deals require a credit check, and for a market-leading flagship iPhone like the iPhone 14 Pro, checks are quite strict.
If a poor credit history is stopping you from getting a contract, we’re afraid your best choice is to save up and buy your iPhone 14 Pro outright, then get a SIM-only deal to use with it.
