iPhone 15 Pro Availability
The iPhone 15 Pro went on sale in the UK on 22nd September 2023.
The iPhone 15 Pro comes in four storage sizes – 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Because of its higher specs, it’s more expensive than the standard iPhone 15, but cheaper than the bigger iPhone 15 Pro Max.
At launch, prices were £999 for the 128GB model, £1,099 for 256GB, £1,299 for 512GB and £1,499 for 1TB.
iPhone 15 Pro Design
You can tell the iPhone 15 Pro apart from the standard iPhone 15 just by the colours alone. The iPhone 15 comes in a brighter array of shades (blue, pink, yellow, green or black), while the Pro is made from titanium and is a lot more muted – you get a choice of natural, blue, white or black.
The titanium build also makes the iPhone 15 Pro much lighter than previous Pro models, though still slightly heavier than the iPhone 15.
The Pro has slimmer bezels, too, giving the screen more impact and allows the handset to be slightly shorter and narrower.
Both phones have the same size 6.1-inch screen at the same resolution, with the same Dynamic Island feature giving you more functionality. But the Pro’s screen has some extra features – at 120Hz, its refresh rate is twice that of the iPhone 15’s, meaning less blur during fast-moving games. And the always-on tech means you can see notifications like the time at a glance without waking the phone.
All iPhone 15 models feature USB-C connectors in place of the Lightning port of old, but the Pro versions have much faster data transfer speeds. And the 15 Pro replaces the ring/silent switch with a new programmable Action button that you can make do what you want (activate the camera, start voice memos, use shortcuts, and more).
iPhone 15 Pro Camera specifications
This is one of the biggest points of difference between the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. They both have a 48-megapixel main sensor and 12-megapixel ultra-wide, but the Pro adds a 12-megapixel Telephoto lens that lets you zoom in to your subject up to 3x (though that’s less than the 5x on the iPhone 15 Pro Max).
Is the iPhone 15 Pro worth buying now?
If you want a very powerful iPhone, then definitely. The iPhone 15 Pro isn’t cheap, but it’s not as expensive as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. And its price is actually less than was rumoured before the launch. But it’s not expected to drop until the iPhone 16 launch next year.
Before you buy, you should ask yourself: do you really need all the latest features? If not, you could buy an older iPhone for a lot less. The iPhone 14 Pro – which is no longer sold by Apple – is likely to cost a lot less now, and on contract, there are bound to be some bargains.
If you can forego the extra power, the iPhone 15 is a bit cheaper than the Pro, and the iPhone 14 even more so. This lacks the Dynamic Island and new camera lens, but otherwise has most of the same features.
And if you’re not tied to Apple, Android phones can be a lot cheaper. Check out Google’s Pixel range to see how much you could save…
Can I get the iPhone 15 Pro with no upfront cost?
You can indeed – quite a few networks offer the iPhone 15 Pro with nothing (or very little) to pay upfront. However, bear in mind that your monthly bills will be higher as a result. To see your options, read our guide to no upfront cost phones.
