Is Asda Mobile a good network?
Asda brings the same low-price philosophy to its mobile network as it does to its supermarkets. What you get is a budget-friendly provider with some of the lowest priced SIM-only deals around.
The network itself is very good – it piggybacks on Vodafone, so coverage is over 99% and you even get 5G on some plans. There’s a good choice of allowances, all the way up to unlimited data; and plans are all on a rolling 30-day basis, so you can change them every month.
If you need or want extra features from your mobile plan, however, you might find Asda a bit lacking. There aren’t really any added benefits such as priority tickets, free app subscriptions, and so on. Roaming outside the EU isn’t the best, either.
Of course, if all you need is a simple SIM-only plan at an attractive price, with none of the bells and whistles, then great – that’s what Asda Mobile does best.
What SIM-only deals can I get from Asda Mobile?
All Asda Mobile SIM-only deals are 30-day plans with unlimited calls and texts. Data allowances you can choose from go from a nice light 3GB per month up to unlimited data.
Its unlimited data deals come in three choices of download speed, with different price tags accordingly. It’s a little confusing but does give you a bit more choice if you know you need a lot of data.
Most – though not all – plans include 5G connectivity, too.
You can also get a Talk and Text SIM from Asda Mobile, which has no data – just unlimited calls and texts for a very low price.

Can I use my Asda Mobile SIM abroad?
Yes. You can roam like home in 37 destinations across Europe – in which you can just use your normal monthly allowance with no extra cost. In some countries you can even connect to 5G.
However, outside of Europe, roaming is pay-as-you-go. And depending on where you’re going it can be quite expensive – as much as £7.50 per MB of data in some locations. There aren’t any options for bundles or add-ons to keep that cost down, either.

Do I need an unlocked phone to use an Asda Mobile SIM?
Yes, your phone needs to be unlocked - or locked to Asda Mobile - in order to use an Asda Mobile SIM card.
If you bought your phone outright from a retailer, it should already be unlocked and you have nothing to worry about.
However, if you're using an old phone that you got on a contract, it may be locked to your former network. In that case, you'll need to get it unlocked - but don't worry, as this is easy enough to do.
All you have to do is contact the network it's locked to, and they'll sort it out - sometimes free of charge. They may give you a code to enter, or might be able to it remotely. Your phone will be unlocked and ready for a new SIM in a few days' time.

Yep, you can keep your phone number when you switch mobile networks, regardless of which network you're switching to or from. It's surprisingly hassle-free to sort out, too.
All you need to do is sign up to a new deal, then contact your current network and ask for a PAC - a porting authorisation code. Give it to Asda Mobile once you have your SIM, and the number should port across within a matter of days.

All Asda Mobile SIM-only deals last 30 days. You can keep the same one rolling month to month if you’re happy with it – or you can swap it out for a new allowance, or cancel your plan altogether whenever you want.
