A relative newcomer to the UK, Austrian mobile network SPUSU has a simple, straightforward offering: 30-day SIM deals with generous allowances and some attractive extras for travelling in the EU.
Is SPUSU a good network?
SPUSU was founded in Austria in 2015, and has slowly expanded across the continent since then. In the UK, that means a nice simple SIM-only offering with a few perks, especially if you have a lot of contact with Europe.
It’s competitively priced and certainly worth comparing against more well-known networks if you’re hunting for a new SIM deal.
Like many SIM-only networks, it’s an MVNO – meaning it uses the existing infrastructure of a larger network. In SPUSU’s case, that network is EE. So with a SPUSU SIM, you get the same coverage and fast 4G/5G speeds as you’d get with EE.
What SIM-only deals can I get from SPUSU?
SPUSU offers a tight selection of 30-day SIM-only deals. Data allowances range from 30GB per month, to fully unlimited. Use the table able to compare what’s available.
And remember that because it’s only a 30-day contract, at the end of every month you have the option to either keep it rolling, change to a different allowance, or cancel it altogether.
All SPUSU SIMs include:
- Unlimited calls and texts
- Inclusive EU roaming (with a capped, but generous, allowance)
- Inclusive calling minutes to EU numbers from the UK
- 5G connectivity
There are also some dedicated Travel SIMs, which give you extra roaming data in the EU.
With every SPUSU plan, you can choose whether to opt for a physical SIM card, or go digital with an eSIM if your phone supports it.
What benefits does SPUSU offer?
You won’t find any exciting extras like you get with big mobile networks – there’s no O2 Priority or free streaming subscriptions with SPUSU. But its SIMs do have a few features to help make your mobile life seamless:
- Inclusive EU roaming
- Inclusive 500 international minutes to EU numbers
- 5G and VoLTE capabilities
- Wi-Fi calling for clearer calls
- Price freeze promise for 2024
Can I use my SPUSU SIM abroad?
Yes. In fact, you get inclusive EU roaming with every SPUSU plan.
The allowance you can use in the EU is capped – expect it to be below your usual monthly allowance, but still generous enough to cover your trip. For instance, the unlimited plan has 15GB data, 500 minutes, and 500 SMS texts to use when you’re abroad.
For the rest of the world, however, SPUSU doesn’t offer inclusive roaming, and there are no options to make roaming cheaper (no roaming bundles are available, for instance).
Outside of the EU, your phone use is pay-as-you-go, with rates varying depending on where you travel. Going online in Australia will cost you 2p per megabyte, for instance, while surfing the web in Botswana costs a whopping £38 per megabyte.
On the plus side, you can indeed use your SPUSU SIM in a huge variety of countries, including some not covered by other networks.
Can I get unlimited data with a SPUSU SIM?
Yes you can. SPUSU has an Unlimited plan, which gives you unlimited – well, everything. That’s unlimited data, UK calls, and texts.
You’ll also get an EU roaming allowance included of 15GB per month, and 500 international minutes per month for calling EU numbers.
Other SIM-only networks
Are SPUSU SIM-only deals cheaper than contracts?
Generally, yes – a SIM-only deal with a handset bought outright will work out cheaper overall, compared to a contract plan that includes both a handset and a SIM.

Can I keep my mobile number if I switch to a SPUSU SIM-only deal?
Yes, you can keep your number when you switch to SPUSU.
When you cancel your old mobile plan, just ask your network for a PAC (porting authorisation code). You can then pass this to SPUSU to keep your number.
It will take a couple of days to transfer over if you’re using a physical SIM card, or just a few hours if you pick an eSIM.
Do I need an unlocked phone to use a SPUSU SIM?
Yes, your phone needs to be unlocked. But if your handset is locked to a network and you’re out of contract, you can contact the network and they’ll unlock it for free.
Do SPUSU run credit checks?
No, SPUSU don’t run any credit checks at all. You can sign up to a SIM regardless of your credit history.
How long do SPUSU contracts last?
All SPUSU SIM plans last 30 days. You pay for your chosen allowance in advance for the month. At the end of the 30 days, you can either keep it rolling or change things up.
