Availability and price
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra launched at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in California on 17 January, along with the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus.

Design
Although the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra looks very similar to the older Galaxy S23 Ultra, it actually comes with a new, titanium design.
This is tougher than the aluminium found on the older model and on the more affordable Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus. That means this top end device can withstand all but the most brutal bumps and scrapes.
The handset itself is marginally lighter than its predecessor, while its flat edges are aimed squarely at taking on Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro.
Camera
The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a quad lens camera. The biggest change compared with 2023 is the new 50MP 5x optical zoom lens. This replaces the 10MP 10x zoom shooter from the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but Samsung claims it can shoot better, tighter images.
Backed up by the same, main 200MP sensors and 10MP and 12MP lenses, brought across from the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this still promises to be a best-in-class effort.
That’s all the more true thanks to the inclusion of some clever new AI tech. A new ProVisual Engine has the ability to make snaps less noisy, but also remove unwanted objects, change backgrounds and even serve up instant slow-mo when shooting video.
You can film clips in 8K, 4K and 1080p, while also being able to upload HDR images to Instagram, a smartphone first.
Specs
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 3 processor.
The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus use the Exynos 2400 in the UK, but the top end model here utilises the marginally better chipset for even more rapid performance.
This is all backed up by lots of neat new AI features. A Live Translate feature can translate phone calls in real time, while an interpreter tool can transcribe conversations being held in two different languages.
Using the Samsung Keyboard’s new Chat Assist feature also means you can message across 13 languages, with translation occurring using AI.
Add the new Circle to Search feature, which Google has introduced exclusively on the S24 series, allowing users to search by circling on screen objects.
