Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra at a glance
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung’s top end flagship.
It comes with an amazing quad camera featuring a massive 200MP main lens, a striking 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Android 13 comes as standard, with Samsung promising software updates for five years, ensuring the S23 Ultra will have a long life, too.
Availability and price
Pre-orders opened on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra on 2nd February 2023, with the device available to buy from 17th February 2023. Samsung is selling the handset SIM-free, costing £1,249 for a 256GB, £1,399 for 512GB and £1,599 for 1TB (at launch).
If you have the cash, you can take this approach and buy a SIM-only deal to go with your new phone.
Or, you can grab a long-term contract from a mobile network to spread out the cost.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has pretty much the same design as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. That means an aluminium frame round the edge, plus a toughened glass screen and rear.
There’s a Samsung S Pen tucked inside, while the 6.8-inch screen curved slightly around the edges of the device.
With IP68 toughness, it can handle dunks in water and is dust proof too.
This is where the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra really stands out from the pack. There’s a main wide-lens camera featuring an incredible 200MP. This sits alongside a 12MP ultrawide and two 10MP telephoto cameras, one with 10x optical zoom and the other with 3x optical zoom.
There’s boosted night photography smarts, thanks to the updated processor, meaning images taken in low light look even clearer than on the S22 Ultra. And clever new astrophotography modes ensure great shots for budding astronomers. There’s also 50MP Expert RAW shooting for those who want to take and edit professional quality images.
Video shooting is available in 8K and 4K, while the front facing camera comes in at 12MP.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra features the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Paired with 8GB of RAM on the 256GB model and 12GB of RAM on the 512GB and 1TB editions (a 256GB/12GB model is also available), performance promises to be super fast.
Gamers will notice the power of Adreno graphics in delivering more realistic gameplay, while the screen’s 120Hz refresh rate means streaming video will look great too.
Samsung has loaded the Galaxy S23 Ultra up with Android 13, Google’s most recent 2023 mobile operating system, with its One UI making for a breezy user experience. Best of all, it says the S23 Ultra will get updates for five years, meaning you don’t need to upgrade your phone to get the latest software.
