Part of the Tesco Phone Shop is a new recycling solution Tesco Mobile Recycle. This website is in partnership with 2020 Mobile (PhoneRecycleBank), who have a global presence but are not very prominent in the direct consumer recycling.
Tesco Phone Recycling offers consumers two ways to recycle a device either through their online website or In Store at a Tesco Phone Shop. Consumers have the ability to earn as much as 200 pounds for their old device, payment via the online website is good however payment is limited to only a Tesco Money Card with all In Store transactions.
The tescomobilerecycle.com website is simplistic website with a clean design. Use the "Find My Mobile" search drop downs to select the manufacturer and model of the handset.
Once you have selected your handset from a list you will be presented with a working and non working price. Tesco recycle mobile offers approximately 40% of the working price for a damaged phone.
For Online orders the payment section allows you to choose from or a combination of either BACS, Cheque or Clubcard points. After this every customer will need to register, disappointed that my log in for the main Tesco website didn't work. Please ensure that you put in your Tesco clubcard number to get those extra points that are beneficial if you exchange them for vouchers.
Upon completion of the online order form Tesco phone recycling will send you a confirmation email
Tesco mobile recycling will send out a welcome pack which includes a Tesco branded instructional letter and a postage bag with every order, the process is really simple.
Just pop your phone in the pre paid bag and drop in the nearest post box.
For more expensive devices you should think about increasing the insurance cover, go down to your local post office to find out how much it will cost.
Payments on the Tesco mobile recycling website are limited to BACS, Points, Cheque you can receive settlement via any or a combination of payment methods. If you choose to recycle In Store then you can ONLY have a Tesco Money Card as a payment option, which is very limited.
Tesco works with a chosen charity each year. At the moment the charity is CLIC Sargent, the work with young children with cancer.
At the moment you cannot donate a portion of the value of the device to charity.
This site is run by 20:20 Mobile who also run PhoneRecycleBank, this is under licence from Tesco, so you know you should get good customer service, however independent online reviews may differ
The pricing on the website is low, there are 3 types of payment. There are many other recommended recyclers in the market the offer better pricing.
In conclusion is you are a regular Tesco customer you may want the reassurance of recycling with them, however we recommend comparing your handset against the 30 recyclers listed on this website to see if you are getting a good deal before checking Tesco Phone Recycling.
